The SCDAA Miami-Dade County Chapter is affiliated with the SCDAA, the National Voluntary Health Agency and the affiliated Combined Federal Campaign. It is a charitable non-profit organization that is exempt from taxes under section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. |
WHAT WE DO
We work closely with the University of Miami Sickle Cell Center in achieving its goals. It is, however, an independent and autonomous organization and reaches out to help all individuals and families affected by sickle cell disease in the Greater Miami-Dade County Community. |
PUBLIC EDUCATION
"Sickle cell is one of the most common inherited blood diseases. It effects primarily African Americans, but also affects a substantial number of Hispanic Americans, particularly in South Florida" It is estimated that in the United States, some 90,000 to 100,000 Americans are afflicted with sickle cell anemia |
OUR PURPOSE
Sickle Cell Miami is the local chapter of the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, an advocacy organization that provides support, research, resources and up to-date information for children and families living with sickle cell disease in South Florida. |
